My four sisters and I all have different styles. The two sisters closest to me in age are Amy, my identical twin sister, and Cara, who is a year younger than us. The three of us were inseparable while growing up in Pittsburgh. Over the years, we took different paths and developed our own unique senses for decorating and entertaining.

Amy has a more funky style. She lived in Chicago during and after college and then moved to Los Angeles where she lived for several years. She worked as an actor and model along with her husband who is also an actor. They sampled many new and interesting theories of expressing their art including variations on décor and entertaining.

Cara is into all things healthy. Cara stayed on the east coast, owned a New York City-based gym and eventually married an orthopedic surgeon. Over the years, they grew his orthopedic practice and she sold her business. They are now a family of six and when they entertain, it is in their beautiful new, spacious home.

As for me, I haven’t married yet. I did a one-year stint in Los Angeles and spent the bulk of my career days living and working in New York City. I now base my business in Greenwich, Connecticut and have a thoroughly simple sense for my personal entertaining. My friend recently saw my home and said, “Wow, you’re really living close to the bone here.” I haven’t collected much, other than books and photographs, so when I entertain at home, it is usually pretty spartan, but guests leave having had a fun, interactive time.

For table settings in the accompanying photographs, I picked up flowers and other table props in local shops. Then I used items we each had collected over the years, to make table settings in our three different styles. The cd’s selected enhance the flavor of each approach. See if you can guess which table setting belongs to which sister – maybe one will inspire you when you’re entertaining at home this fall!
